DAY 1 OF 30 DAY SERIES | THE BANK THAT THINKS BEFORE IT ACTS

The World is Changing. So that of Banking. Banking’s next competitive advantage may not be capital alone. Perhaps it may be intelligence.

In present generations, banks have relied on historical financial statements, collateral, periodic inspections and experienced judgment to make credit decisions. These remain important, but the world is changing.

Artificial intelligence, transaction analytics and predictive models now offer opportunities to identify emerging borrower stress, detect unusual transactions and anticipate operational vulnerabilities before they become serious problems.

Imagine a bank that does not merely report rising non-performing loans, but identifies early warning signals and intervenes before a viable business deteriorates. Imagine risk management that helps prevent tomorrow’s loss instead of explaining yesterday’s failure.

Now what we are doing? We could emging but whether we are prepared? If it could be understood, not taking inititives, will be a foolish behaviour!

Intelligent banking is not about blindly trusting algorithms. It requires reliable data, explainable decisions, human oversight, ethical safeguards and clear accountability.

In Bangladesh, our opportunity is significant: use technology not merely to accelerate transactions, but to improve the quality of financial decisions and the productive allocation of capital.

The question for banking leaders is simple: Are we building banks that process information faster or banks that understand risk better?
